Government announces an enquiry into police violence at Orgreave
The government has finally announced a statutary enquiry into police violence at Orgreave over 40 years after the event.
This is a major victory for the miners and families who have fought for decades to publically uncover the truth around actions of the police at the former Orgreave Coking plant.
It is reported that the Home Secretary, Yvette Coopere has said that the inquiry would address the collapsed prosecutions as well as the policing on the day.
Miner Arthur Critchlow, who suffered a fractured skull after being hit by a police truncheon was reported as saying:
“It’s a massive injustice. For the 48 days of that trial I was convinced I was going to get life in prison…The inquiry announcement was fantastic, … I just hope the miners will be vindicated, and the majority of the country will realise that we weren’t lying – the media were lying, and the police were lying. I just want the truth, for people to know what the police did, and who ordered it.”Allistair Lomax

Terry Robinson wins Election as Trustee of the Mineworkers Pension Scheme
Congratulations to our SLP comrade Terry Robinson on winning the election as Pensioner Representive Trustee of the Minerworkers Pension Scheme, for the Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire Constituency.
Terry won the election by a convincing majority, obviously capturing the confidence of voters.
The election arose from the death of our dear comrade Ken Capstick, who was a personal friend of Terry’s.
