DESCRIPTION:Leicester Trades Union Council Organise a memorial day for all workers killed at work in the East Midlands. \nIt begins by the reading out the list of those killed at work in the East Midlands followed by a minute’s silence. \nThere will be a number of speakers arranged beginning with the Lord Mayor of Leicester and followed by local trade unionists. \nThere is also a display floral tributes contributed by local trades unionists branches and other organisations and individuals. Then finished with some music provided by Red Leicester Choir. \nThe event should take approximately 45 minutes. \nEvery year more people are killed at work than in wars. Most don’t die of mystery ailments\, or in tragic “accidents”. They die because an employer decided their safety just wasn’t that important a priority. SUMMARY:Rally to protect Derbyshire Care Homes
DESCRIPTION:Derbyshire County Council has announced the closure of eight care homes for older people after their sale to the private sector fell through. Fifty elderly residents are to lose their homes and over two hundred staff will lose their jobs.\n\nWe do not believe the closure of these excellent buildings\, the loss of their dedicated staff and the eviction of these elderly residents is in anyone’s best interests.\nAs part of our campaign to save these homes we will be holding a rally at County Hall\, Matlock before the next full meeting of the council. DESCRIPTION:Israel continues to use starvation – deliberately\, systematically\, and with devastating consequences – to collectively punish the civilian population in Gaza. This is not a humanitarian crisis caused by misfortune. It is a mass atrocity being carried out in plain sight. \nIt is up to us to do everything we can to stop this. Today\, we will again mobilise across Britain with pots and pans\, demanding that Israel and its enablers “stop starving Gaza!” Will you join us? \nFind your local event; Here \nAccording to the director of the World Food Programme in Gaza\, “Every hour matters now. People are dying of hunger.” Médecins Sans Frontières reports treating “emaciated children with sunken eyes\, who weigh half what they should.” Human Rights Watch says plainly\, “The Israeli government is deliberately blocking the delivery of water\, food\, and fuel – acts of collective punishment amounting to war crimes.” \nThe British government is a partner in genocide\, so long as it continues to conduct business as usual with Israel. While Keir Starmer and David Lammy issue vague statements and stage-managed concern\, the UK keeps arming and defending Israel. Their words mean nothing while people starve and children die. \nToday\, we take action where we are. Across the country\, our supporters are holding bold demonstrations – making noise\, showing our strength\, and confronting those in power with the urgency they refuse to show. \nWe remember those murdered while queuing for food.
